Texas State Highway 315 runs through East Texas from Carthage to Mount Enterprise. It is frequently used as a short cut to Houston or Nacogdoches and experiences heavy 18-wheeler traffic. The majority of the roadway is 2-lane that includes multiple intersections, driveways, and many hills and curves. The current speed limit of 70 MPH is too fast for this road and contributes to the frequent accidents that often result in injury or death. The Texas Department of Transportation does not plan to address this issue until 2028. We are urging TXDOT to prioritize the safety of Rusk County and decrease the speed limit on Texas SH 315 to 55 MPH.
