Why this petition matters

Started by Maria Accurso

Westchester County Airport (HPN)’s Runway 16 negatively impacts the residents of Pleasantville & Chappaqua, especially the homes on Old Farm Rd S., Usonia Rd and all the adjacent side streets. Our homes are located directly under the arrival path for Runway 16, the airport's primary runway for flights that are overwhelmingly comprised of private and commercial jets, not commercial flights like Jet Blue.

Over the past 5-7 years, there has been a tremendous increase on the number of flights arriving at HPN on Runway 16, at times 236 flights in one day! That's 236 planes flying over our homes. The constant noise is not only deafening, but the large private aircraft are also flying extremely low and not respecting the voluntary curfew, at times waking residents and their children up in the middle of the night. As an example, in April 279 private planes flew low and directly overhead between the hours of midnight and 6:00 a.m., completely disrupting hard-working parents’ and children’s sleep.

The noise disturbance coupled with the environmental concerns for the well-being of our families has prompted us to respectfully ask for a change in the arrival flight paths to decrease the number of arrivals on Runway 16. We cannot rationalize how one sole area is forced to take the brunt of the arrivals to HPN.  It is fundamentally unfair that we alone bear the burden of the noise and environmental dangers.

We need a change and we ask you to sign this petition in an effort to seek assistance from our County Executive, George Latimer, to help us find alternative paths to be used as the primary runway to HPN.

Respectfully,

Westchester County Residents
