Decatur High School Environmental Club is partnering with the Green Schools Campaign. Our goal and mission is to transition Decatur High School to 100% clean and renewable energy. We are focusing on solar energy for our source of renewable energy at Decatur. Solar panels are a common example of a producer of solar energy. Transitioning to renewable energy is important because school districts are one of the largest emitters of Greenhouse gases (Electricity, heat, etc). Most non-renewable sources produce and trap carbon dioxide (A Greenhouse gas) in the atmosphere, which is one of the main causes of climate change.

Our goal also includes energy efficiency. Energy efficiency is being resourceful with the energy that we produce and use. Along with environmental reasons, applying energy efficiency to our school will help save the school money. This is because energy efficiency is reducing power consumption and excess emissions. This money can be used and invested back into the classrooms. Sign this petition to show your support for the cause.
