In 70% of states women are charged a sales tax when they purchase feminine hygiene products. In 2004 Kenya changed the course of history and led feminist movement to a powerful place when eliminating the tax on pads and allotting 3 million dollars per year to provide residents with free sanitary products; it is no surprise that Canada, India, Australia and more followed so why hasn't all of America done the same? By eliminating the luxury tax on feminine products such as pads and tampons other countries have seen a dramatic increase in educational progress and attendance from girls aged 12-24. The one question I and many other women have is since when is having menstrual cramps, mood swings, fatigue, back pain and the responsibility of dealing with lots of blood a luxury? The short answer? It Isn't! By signing this petition you are adding your name, woman or man to the long list of people who would like to see a change in the tax on feminine products, the conversation surrounding periods and the growing success of woman all over the country who have had suffer academically or in the work force from their monthly "luxury".
