In the near future there should be change amongst Furman organizations. Since I have attended Furman University, I have not seen a black fraternity on campus. As a junior African American communication studies student, I feel as though Diversity in our Greek life is necessary to attract young black adults to the Furman community. Myself and along with many others feel as though we should have the opportunity to bring Black Greek Life to campus. This would bring prosperity, positivity and community service to campus life; along with giving us, young men an opportunity to join a lifetime brotherhood and connect outside of Furman. My father is a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and my mother is member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. They are both active members in their organizations today, years after college. The relationships and values that they have developed by being in a Greek organization, have a direct effect in my life. Also, Networking is critical towards a successful career, and developing social skills. It is imperative that we take the proper steps to make this change. I feel like it is my duty to respectfully work with my peers to see this reformation in the near future.
