Belmont is known to attract students from across the country, but it has especially attracted those who live locally. Even students who come from out of state tend to move to Nashville during their time at Belmont because of the many opportunities the city brings. The large population of Nashville local students results in the increasing population of commuter students at Belmont.

No matter how far we travel each day to attend classes, driving back and forth from home throughout the day becomes a hassle. Unlike a student living on campus, a commuter student does not have a place to relax, grab a snack, or even take a nap during the large time gaps that he/she might have between classes. As a commuter student, I would greatly appreciate a set place to relax or make food without having to leave campus.

We would love for Belmont to implement a commuter lounge in either the Gabhart Student Center, the Beaman Student Center, or other flexible spaces on campus. Many spaces on campus which are not in frequent use can be transformed into a lounging space for students. Also, forming a committee of commuter students would be helpful in ensuring that the commuter lounge would run smoothly.
