Instate more all-gender bathrooms at Hunter!

Join AQuIPS, the student policy group of the LGBT+ Social Science and Public Policy Center at Hunter College, as we request that Hunter do the following:
- In keeping with what Hunter has already begun to do, make all single occupancy bathrooms on campus compliant with NYC policy by replacing current signage with signage stating that the facility is open to all genders.
- Establish a multi-stall all-gender bathroom in the West building on at least one level, any floor 1-7.
- In February & March of 2017, CCNY, CUNY’s General Counsel, and Brooklyn College all issued statements affirming their commitment to protecting the right of transgender/gender non-conforming students to use bathrooms consistent with their gender identity. Hunter should follow suit and issue a similar statement.
Across the country, transgender/gender non-conforming students face harassment and violence. In response, various CUNYs, including Brooklyn College, John Jay, the Graduate Center, and CUNY School of Law have all instated all-gender bathrooms. Hunter’s goal should be to foster an inclusive and safe environment for all, and all-gender bathrooms would be a major step toward creating this type of environment. Together, we wish for Hunter to follow in the footsteps of other CUNYs, and take the above actions to make the campus a better place for all students!
