We shouldn't encourage any implication that bonds covid-19 to Asian people.

I'm signing be cause we can't create an inclusive and collaborative atmosphere under a chair who believes in demonizing whole groups for political purposes.

This sort of attitude towards power indicates he is not fit for leadership and needs training additional training. This attitude shows exactly why CS and UCLA have the representation they do.

The behavior displayed by Gafni is unacceptable in public but is especially egregious in an educational setting.

His comments come off as rude, insensitive and ignorant. How can someone become a leader with such attitude.

Departmental chairs cannot excuse themselves from knowing how their department is operating and what concerns tuition paying students have about their education.

UCLA claims to know and do better. Actions speak louder than words.

As an HSSEAS alumnus, I'm ashamed that Prof. Gafni is being promoted to a position of prestige within my Alma Mater. He has shown not only a callousness to those that may be suffering, but an inability to be receptive to the experience of others. In addition, he uses ignorant logic to justify his bigotry, claiming erroneously that it's ok to refer to Covid at the "Wuhan flu" because the 1918 pandemic was named after its point of origin, Spain.
Spain was not the origin of the 1918 pandemic.
