The military and aging populations critically need social workers who are sensitive to their unique needs. Subsequently, military and gerontology social work fields are growing. However, the University of South Carolina's College of Social Work has terminated these programs. Despite telling the 2019 cohort we would be able to specialize in these fields for two years when we applied and many students moving a large distance specifically for these programs, the school terminated the programs halfway through the graduate program. For both our educational needs and maintaining the well-being of the military and elderly populations, it is critical we gain your support in keeping these programs.
