Such a wonderful Christmas service what makes them think we want change, some more left wing twaddle.

Closing a choir is a stifling and regressive manoeuvre - if anything there ought to be an increase not a decrease in singing, when the world needs it most. As a composer of music for chapel, church, and cathedral - including music for Her Majesty's Chapel Royal - I really can't see how, in the round, the closure of Sheffield Cathedral Choir is a helpful decision at any truly important level.

Music enhances the spirituality of worship and is no way of trying to save money.

Choral singing has a long tradition in Sheffield. Why would any cathedral consider disbanding its choir which has given young singers opportunities to develop their musical talents? Churches have been so important in the musical life of Sheffield and other cities. In the present crisis music has become an even more important calming benefit to physical and mental health alongside community cohesion.

I believe that dismissing the choir is unnecessary and like throwing the baby out with the bath water.. The dean and chapter must be able to find a more satisfactory resolution IF change IS needed

As a parent of a chorister elsewhere, this is not the right way to treat kids who commit long hours to being part of a church or cathedral choir. If the aim was greater diversity it should have been introduced via future intakes rather than by sacking existing singers. It's also a strange decision since there's not huge pent up demand from kids keen to spend their Sundays singing in church plus rehearsals after school. Surely this decision could be rethought?

The behaviour of the cathedral leaders is despicable and underhand

My son joined the cathedral choir at a very difficult time, we were eternally grateful for the friendships he made, and the confidence it gave. It was a wonderful time in all of our lives, and I felt it was very diverse in its members.
