For over 20 years there has been ‘temporary’ scaffolding securing the Spire on Erskine Church. In that same time period, the ownership of the Church has constantly changed with them all failing to address the derelict condition of the building, both inside and out.

It is clear that the building is not viable for development and temporary ownership is being sought for reasons that are not genuine or in the best interested of the Church or Langholm residents and townsfolk. 

Recent images of the inside of the Church have come to light showing extensive damage and we have had enough of this continuous cycle of the property switching hands for illegitimate reasons whilst it continues to fall into further and significant disrepair and reports of falling debris become more frequent.

We want the following objectives satisfied:

The Council to commission an internal survey of the Church as a matter of priority, to assess its structural integrity, in particular to determine any risks to the stability of the Spire due to extreme internal deterioration.

Regular full building surveys to assess structural integrity and safety.

Demolition of the building due to safety concerns and the long term failure to attract a legitimate developer.
