Hello, I’m deaf advocate in few places and helping deaf community on what deaf people needs. I’m working with Banner Health about deaf rights and needs because communication is a huge barrier. Banner health is forcing deaf to use Video Remote Interpreter (VRI) instead on-site interpreter come to the hospital. VRI is a no good, why? Connection gets lost or breaking up, waiting more time for relay to answer the call while hospital staffs waiting on a patient and few pauses/gargles Also, there are numerous dial ins and hang ups when staff leave and come to patient’s room on numerous times. On-site interpreter is much easier because interpreter sit by the room all ready when health staffs come in a room to talk to patient and family. VRI is a small iPad device and limit to see and for other family members to see and hear on what relay is saying. I would like to encourage anyone to sign a deaf petition if interested them. I really appreciate if you sign the petition.
