I have a friend who was personally effected by her unethical interpreting that could have damaged her life. She fired her on the spot.
Where is NAD & RID?

As a former, and now current hearing student of ASL, it has been my pleasure to meet many members of our local Deaf Community. In the course of my studies I have learned a lot about both deafness and the deaf community. It is unconscionable the NVC could be so insensitive to the community and the culture as to hire someone as unqualified and uncaring as Kylie Kirkpatrick. Is this even legal? Please rethink this and do the right thing.

I care about The quality of ASL. Ms. Kirkpatrick has no qualifications for this job, is not a native signer, is not certified by any agency. How can she be picked over qualified Deaf teachers?

While I am not a current or prospective student, I am a student of ASL and a supporter of the Deaf community. ASL classes bridge the gap between the hearing and Deaf worlds fostering understanding and unity. I question why the program at NVC is being removed if it is financially viable.

I believe people should have available options for where they can learn ASL and no academic institution should cut it out

ASL with Prof. Loebs was a life changing experience. Not only do you learn another language, but you learn about a whole different culture and community. We are a diverse country and learning ASL helps with overcoming language barriers. Cutting this class will only hinder the change that can happen. There are Deaf and Hard of Hearing folks everywhere. If you cut ASL, then cut all of the other languages. ASL is just as important.
