The “safety net policy” which is also known as the “no detriment policy”, means that assessments and exams taken throughout 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic will not negatively affect students academic performance and grades will not be affected.

The pandemic has affected all students at De Montfort University, such as learning being put online which isn’t as effective as face-to-face learning which means students are missing out on a high standard of learning that students would usually get. Many students mental health will be extremely negatively impacted by the pandemic, some will have to work in an unsuitable environment which will restrict them from achieving their full potential aswell as having a lack of resources that cannot be accessed. Students aren’t getting the support they would usually have and are still expected to produce the same standard of work. Also considering those with learning difficulties who would find it extremely difficult to learn online rather than in a face-to-face environment.

We are asking that a safety net to be implemented for all students who are taking exams/assessments during 2021, that our grades will not be at risk and be assessed in a fair way considering the circumstances students are having to learn in.
