For the past several years, the Detroit People's Platform, the ADA community, and other Transit Advocates have been trying to find a place at the table, where rather than creating an unpalatable menu, at an escalating price, Riders can be served what we, as customers, want and need-Safety, Improvement of Service, and Accountability from DDOT.

An example of our being Told, rather than Heard, is a proposal to move Monthly Community Meetings from our Transit Center, to a location convenient for those who drive, rather than for DDOT Riders.

As Our Transit Center, Rosa Parks is accessible by more Bus Routes than any other public location. It was proposed 2 years ago that meetings be held at Rosa Parks, safer and easier for more Riders to access than DDOT's HQ. That location was reachable only from the Crosstown and Russell buses. After a period of rotating meetings to different places, many of which had only one connecting route, location was bought to a vote with Riders overwhelmingly asking, again, for meetings to be held at Rosa Parks. Why Change now?

Even with a monthly time and place set, DDOT has dragged its feet on posting meeting information on all buses. Despite spending our money on signs announcing monthly meetings, they are not on display, and were not updated to show DDOT's arbitrary decision to cancel July's Monthly Meeting.

What should we expect when the location is moved? How long would it take to update signs? Why are we still waiting for translations of meeting notices, fare changes, and Lyft credits?

Some coaches have signs claiming our Voices can be Heard.... Is that only if we ride certain buses? Only if we do not speak another language? Or are Detroit's Riders, Workers, Taxpayers, being Red-Lined in yet another way? It is time for DDOT to Stop Talking at us and Start Listening to us
