By signing this petition you are showing the Huron Perth Athletics Association, and the Huron Perth Health Unit, that you want them to support safe travel outside of the health unit so student athletes can participate in WOSSAA and OFSAA events.  This will require athletes to either show proof of vaccination or display a negative covid test, and adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines set out by OFSAA.  It may mean, unvaccinated students can not participate in certain events due to location or requirement to show proof of vaccination.

The purpose of this petition is to allow a full return to sport for students in Huron Perth Catholic and Avon Maitland District school boards. Currently, student athletes are unable to compete at activities outside of the health unit. This is a result of the school boards allowing unvaccinated students to play sports, which does not adhere to OFSAA rules. Although this includes those that are hesitant to get vaccinated, it excludes athletes that are following government regulations from participating in WOSSAA and OFSAA events. It also inhibits sports that require travel outside of the health unit due to lack of facilities, such as nordic skiing. Numerous events, including minor sports, are being held in public buildings and these buildings require proof of vaccination.

Ontario continues to lift restrictions and open facilities to the public.  We continue to wear masks, we social distance, we have learned on line, we gave up sports completely, we got vaccinated, and now we want to move forward with the rest of the province!  Why should Huron Perth students continue to be held back from participation in such activities when other school districts are moving forward? Let us play.

Thank you for your support and please forward to other students.  Let’s voice our concerns together!
