While campaigning recently on local issues in Lisnasharragh, I met several concerned parents who raised an urgent matter of road safety.  Their children play sports at regularly at Cherryvale Playing Fields on the Ravenhill Road. The children enter and leave Cherryvale by the  main gate. Often, they encounter cars travelling at speed. As you will be aware, the Ravenhill Road is a major busy thoroughfare. The parents told of several near misses where a child walks out to cross the road but a car forces them to run for safety. I feel something needs to be done to prevent serious injury or worse to one of the children. The Ravenhill Road has several pedestrian traffic islands near school front entrances but needs a set of traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing at the Cherryvale entrance as a matter of urgency. Such an installation may help greatly to lessen the danger and remind drivers of the frequency of children crossing. Please support this petition. Go raibh maith agaibh, Stevie Jenkins.
