DC: Require Developers to Create Pedestrian Walkways at Construction Sites
With the razing of several large office buildings and the construction at CIty Center, much of downtown DC is under construction. Unfortunately, DDOT's Pedestrian Safety and Work Zone Standards do not require developers to create an alternate pedestrian walkway when the project results in sidewalk closure. Pedestrians are either inconvenienced or endangered by the fact that developers are not required to create an alternate walkway for pedestrians at construction sites.
I am asking the DC Department of Transportation to protect the safety of its citizens by requiring the creation of walkways for pedestrians at construction sites.
