Christina Golubski started this petition to DC Department of Transportation

This petition has been created to request that DDOT install a speed camera in order to better enforce the 25 MPH speed limit in a residential neighborhood of the District of Columbia.

The 500 and 600 blocks of Irving St NW street are one way, and traffic heads east. It has a speed limit of 25 MPH. There are a number of alleyways from which cars enter the street as well as many children that live on the block. Too often do cars speed wildly, egregiously, and dangerously down the street, often to beat the light at the intersection of Warder and Irving St. There have been several vehicle crashes, especially when residents' cars pull out from the side parking on the street and people are flying down from Georgia Ave.

In light of these problems, we are requesting the installation of a speed camera. We understand there cannot be a speed bump because of the need for ambulances to use the road to get to National Hospital Center.

The speeding is egregious and dangerous. The camera would have the dual benefit of slowing traffic as well as raising money for the city (given the frequency of the violations, will no doubt it will bring in many tickets).
