Dangerous play structure bridge in Oakland park

The play structure at Oakland's Lake Merritt park near Lakeshore Boulevard and Grand Avenue (near the Lakeview library) is great. Except if you're a toddler. There is an enticing suspended bridge that hovers high over the ground that poses a danger for children, ages 1 to 5. In fact, one toddler fell in July. The parent and child were traumatized. Near-falls play out regularly; parents often catch their young children slipping from this bridge. This dangerous situation can be avoided. We are calling on the city of Oakland to replace this bridge with a safer one. (A solid metal bridge bottom instead of one that sends kids sliding and with narrow slats, instead of the ones pictured here.) This costs a minimal amount. And replacing this bridge would save Oakland much more in the long run, much less than if a lawsuit was filed. I am a longtime teacher who runs the Kindergym program for Under 3s in Oakland. And even though I have grown children now, I continue to care about our village.
