Stand Up to the Sexist Davison High School Dress Code

Stand Up to the Sexist Davison High School Dress Code
My name is Cooper Austin and I am the Student Council President of the Freshman Class. As a male, I have realized how far my privilege has brung me. I realize how it is easier for me to be a leader, how it’s easier for me to have a voice, and how I am rarely sexualized simply based off of my sex and what I wear.
The Davison High School Dress Code states that the reason why there is a Dress Code is to protect the students. This is highly inappropriate because it victim blames the young girls who are sexually assaulted by saying that what they wear is the reason for their assault. Davison High School is better than this and it’s time for us, the students, to demand better. Students should demand a Dress Code that doesn’t encourage seeing how short a skirt but simply noticing is something a student is wearing is inappropriate.
I ask that you sign this petition because the students deserve to freely express themselves without being sexualized or Victim Blamed. Davison High School, you should demand action now.
