Automatically expunge felony records for first offenders after 7 years

Anyone that receives a felony conviction for a nonviolent, nonsexual first offense, satisfactorily serves his or her sentence, and does not receive any other arrests should automatically be able to claim amnesty after seven years. The current Pardon system for the State of Louisiana does not allow a convicted felon to have his or her record expunged. The pardon only grants the felon to regain the right to vote. Felony convictions for first offenders stay on a person's record for the rest of his or her life. Any opportunity for employment could be lost due to this. The current system creates an economic disadvantage due to a past mistake someone made.
