Install Sprinkler Systems into all City Council High Rise blocks in Stoke on Trent

Following the devastating consequences of the recent fire at Grenfell Tower in London, there have been calls to ensure that every council attains the best level of Fire Safety possible, for the tower blocks within their housing stock. We ask for Stoke on Trent City Council to formulate and deliver, the installation of sprinkler systems to ALL high rise blocks within their control, as a matter of utmost urgency. We call on Executive Director David Sidaway, together with Housing Director Carl Brazier and the full Cabinet to meet URGENTLY and approve this request.
Government Committees Secretary Sajid Javid has been quoted in the national press, as informing LGA Chairman Gary Porter of "assurances that funding will be made available to those councils that seek to conduct work" All councils have been contacted quoting Sajid Javids statement that "Councils will be fully reimbursed for any building work carried out on tower blocks that COULD face a similar fire risk to that of Grenfell Tower"
We ask Stoke on Trent City Council to commence a sprinkler system schedule of works to all tower blocks, given that the "pilot scheme", formulated in 2013, of retrofitting sprinkler systems into low-rise Matthews Walk in Hanley was carried out as a precursor to rolling-out the sprinkler systems installation across the entire city.
There is no cost that can be placed upon human lives. Also, given the fact that our fire fighters are calling for sprinklers to be fitted into tower blocks to aid them in their work and to safeguard themselves as well as residents, WE SAY TO START THIS WORK IMMEDIATELY AND TO APPLY FOR REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE GOVERNMENT.
