Objection to Development of the Factory on 74 Oakfield Road

An application has been made to convert part of the factory on Oakfield road into 5 * 25 sqm bedsits; this is being done by declaring the factory as a shop. As the local community we are concerned about this application for the following reasons:
- The factory is not a shop and has never been a shop; we have residents who have lived on the road for decades who can state it was always a factory. In our opinion we think that the factory owner is trying to 'cheat' the system.
- The factory owner has never consulted with local residents on any plans.
- We believe this is the first step of the development to convert the entire building to bedsits and the factory owner's previous behaviour shows his true intentions as he has placed multiple applications to convert into high density housing over the previous decade.
- Parking issues - initially 5 and then 30 to 50 people will need to park on our local streets
While we recognise the need for housing and would like to see the factory contribute to the local housing stock we ascertain that the housing needs to be of high quality to promote sustainable living; 25 sqm bedsits are not that.
Therefore we urge you to reject the application and inform the factory owner that if he consults with the local community to build sustainable accommodation they would support his development plans .
