Petition to President Oxtoby: Rescind the Disciplines Issued to 11 Workers

To David Oxtoby,
We, concerned alumni of Pomona College, remember when you fired 17 immigrant workers in the midst of a unionization campaign 6 years ago. This decision has had lasting effects on the workers and on our community as a whole.
Now we have learned that 11 workers who participated in union actions this past week were retaliated against and disciplined. This response to worker organizing is not in keeping with the values that we hold dear as Pomona alumni.
As alumni, we will always remember the dining hall workers who took care of us during our college years. We expect Pomona's president to have the same respect for the Pomona workers that we do.
We demand that you rescind the 11 disciplines and begin to treat Pomona workers with the respect and dignity they deserve. In a time when anti-worker and anti-immigrant policies have taken fierce root, we hope that the Pomona administration will ally with its workers and defend the ideals of care, tolerance, and mutual respect embraced by the school’s broader community. Is this anti-worker sentiment the legacy you want to leave behind?
