David O'Byrne, Minister of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources: Implement a solution prior to 30 April to keep the Abt Railway going!

The communities of Tasmania's West Coast need you to develop and implement short and long-term solutions prior to 30 April 2013 that will keep the Abt Wilderness Railway operating.

We cannot accept the idea that the issue and its solution are beyond the resources, expertise and creativity of the Tasmanian Government and Federal Group (as has been reported in local news media). Forcing an iconic part of the West Coast's history to close would not only directly put almost 50 people out of work in small communities, but will also affect supporting businesses and would remove a key link in the chain of what attracts visitors to Tasmania and its West Coast. Forcing the railway to close would be a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

The communities of the West Coast are open to solutions that will keep the railway open. Whether the answer be handing the enterprise over to a non-profit/governmental partnership, governmental funding, philanthropic funding or some other idea, a sustainable solution must be found, and quickly.

Tell the Tasmanian Government and the Federal Group to implement a solution prior to 30 April 2013 that will keep the Abt Wilderness Railway operating! You can follow the progress of the petition on:
