Johnson Elementary School: Keep Our Kids Safe

Johnson Elementary needs a doorbell at an entry point accessible from the playground to allow students to safely access their school.
In the first two months of the 2017-2018 school year, there knowingly occurred two instances of students being locked outside unsupervised, unaccounted for and unable to regain access to the building.
This is due to increased security, in the form of locked doors, and building layout. Currently the only place for students to communicate with staff inside the building and notify them of their circumstance is at the main entrance. From the playground this is only accessed by walking outside of school grounds, along the road and through a parking lot. This is not an acceptable procedure for children as young as 5 years old.
Budget limitations and insufficient pressure have prevented the school from taking action to remedy this problem. This petition aims to quantify the desire to protect our children in a manner that is sufficient to produce results from the principal, David Manning, and if needed the Lamoille North Supervisory Union's Superintendent Catherine Gallagher and board members. When signing this petition please include you connection to Johnson Elementary (parent/guardian, family, community member, etc.) and a brief reason for signing. Thank you for supporting our school and our kids.
