All students who have attended, will attend and who currently attend the University of Hawai'i, regardless of location; will be, continue to be and have been directly and indirectly affected by the University of Hawai'i's involvement and support of the development of the Thirty Meter Telescope on our most sacred mountain, our piko, Maunakea.  UH’s support of destructive projects like the TMT directly affect all of us on all levels.  The ties that kanaka have to Hawai'i and the connections that those who call Hawai'i home are real and run deep into the core of the earth; these ties exist whether they are acknowledged or not.  The spiritual tapestry that exists here is like no other in the world and this is not easy for any intellect or academic to understand.  It is because of this truth, that the desecration of our mauna and surrounding lands needs to stop, the university, who is a lessee of the state of Hawai'i, needs to be held accountable for it's actions and in-actions, and the voices of our kupuna, keiki both seen and unseen as well as our kanaka community need to be heard.  Not only do their voices need to be heard, pono actions must follow. As alumni, as alumni who aloha our 'aina and have gone through the university system, we are in a unique position to voice our concerns regarding matters of the university and we can continue to be the voices of pono change for our future.  Let's positively use the voice of our collective <'ohana included> to stop the desecration of our piko, Maunakea.  Me ke aloha pumehana.
