Every year families throughout BC and Canada are embroiled in family law cases, such as divorce and family maintenance. The laws need to be changed to make an already difficult time, simpler and easier for both parents and children involved. We need to put a stop to the predetory behavior of lawyers. Lawyer's fees should be capped at a more reasonable rate of $100/hr and there should be a flat rate for divorce proceedings. Too many families are left shattered by the costs and delays of our broken family law system. We need change now to make our system kinder and easier for all parties involved. I'm suggesting an automatic arbitration system. Where any parties that fail to come to a quick and reasonable agreement, would submit affidavits and evidence to an arbitrator/judge who would weigh both sides and issue a binding judgement. In a timely, fair and cost effective manner.
