The MA Book Arts Course at Camberwell is facing closure in 2020 with no new intake in 2019.

This MA is a valuable pillar in the community of ‘Artists Who Make Books’ and in the growing world of artist’s book fairs that are held annually, both nationally and internationally.

I have met many ex-Book Art’s graduates at these events who are still doing what they love decades later and are actively contributing to the book-arts community.

Many notable institions such as the British Library and the V&A have curated Artist’s Book Collections.

The British Library is currently running a series of sell out talks entitled: ‘Artist’s Books Now’, featuring and curated by ex-Camberwell Book Arts graduates, many of whom also teach at art schools and Universities including the University of West England in Bristol, Bath Spa University and Winchester School of Art, who also curate collections, organise events, participate in residencies, as well as exhibit regularly.

The world of Book Arts is an ever unfolding journey which once embarked upon becomes a way of life that engages with an ever-expanding community of ‘Artists Who Make Books’ and also with both book-lovers and art-lovers alike.

The Course at Camberwell has been a part of this thriving community for thirty years. It is an internationally renown and recognised Masters, and the only course of its kind not just in the UK but also in Europe.

This would be a terrible loss to future generations of artists who appreciate the book as a work of art in its own right and to the communities that this art form generates, as seen every year at The ‘Small Publishers Fair’ in London, ‘Turn The Page Artist’s Book Fair’ in Norwich, The ‘International Contemporary Artists Book Fair’ in Leeds, and many more.

Please sign this petition to help keep the MA Book Arts Course at Camberwell College of Arts alive and make it Europe’s shining star by which many other courses may follow.
