Open psychiatric wards specifically for 18-30 year olds

At 17 if you become mentally unwell and need a hospital admission then you are admitted to a CAMHS ward with staff trained to deal with young people, often the ward has activities on offer suitable for that age group and boredom busters such as pool tables, wiis, facilities allowing people to do sport and so on. The ward caters for patients in school regardless of whether they are at A level stage or Key stage 3.
Once a person turns 18 they are admitted to wards that are used to dealing with adults around the age of 40-60 years old, the activities are often gardening or knitting/sowing. There is no support for young people who may be studying A levels, college courses or at university. Often people are in these wards for weeks or months, it can be very boring and there is little to do.
There is evidence suggesting that the mind does not fully develop until the age of 25 and in our society today there are many people aged 18-30 that live at home with their parents.
An 18 year old and a 60 year old need very different treatment, activities and support. I also think it is not appropriate for an 18 year old to room share with a 60 year old. I have personal experience of this and have felt very uncomfortable being a young person in nightmare around 50/60 year old men when I have been on mixed wards.
I feel it is incredibly important that during such a distressing time that young adults are treated appropriately and in an age appropriate environment.
