The price of insulin, the drug that keeps blood sugar capped for people with diabetes, and keeps type 1 diabetics alive has tripled from 2002 - 2013. In the U.S. that means $300 per vial and most diabetics need 2-3 vials per month. The drug is 100 years old and the original discoverers sold the patent for $1 to ensure it was available to all. There is zero economic reason for the price increases, it is pure greed on the part of the 3 companies who manufacture 95% of the drug world wide; Eli Lilly of the U.S., Sanofi of France, Novo Nordisk of Denmark.
