Safe consumption/Injection sites have become a popular concept in Canada to deter the drug epidemic, at first glance, this may seem like a good idea but many sites that have opened seem to have worrying issues.

If a safe consumption/injection site opens in Peterborough the consequences may be harsh and ultimately lead to more drug abuse, homelessness and crime.

Safe consumption/Injection sites remove all accountability from drug users and give them the tools and resources needed to consume/inject ILLEGAL drugs. This also provides a gateway to drug consumption, many individuals who have never taken/consumed drugs can be given the resources that explain how to safely consume drugs, this itself glorifies and glamorizes drug use as many will see no repercussions to drug use. Illegal drug use should never be perceived as "safe"

I also do not believe Peterborough will be able to accommodate all drug users who will visit the sites. I believe the mass influx of individuals going to these sites will be much higher than they can handle. A study done also solidify's this argument I will quote and link the study below. 

"Lines can be long, especially during the weeks that social assistance
cheques are distributed (5,8,34). This can be especially problematic for clients who are experiencing symptoms of withdrawal (24). At the busiest times, Insite clients may have to wait 15-30 minutes for a booth to become available, and almost 10% of clients leave while waiting for a booth (3).
