It has always been that chickens and roosters make great pets. Recently the Darwin city council have proposed a new by law to make it so residents in the suburban area will have to give up many of there beloved chickens and roosters. As long as people abide by existing laws of keeping poultry housing clean, following recommendations to house and lock roosters up at night and let out after sunrise then we see no reason why this limitation should be enforced. There is no evidence supporting a reason to change existing poultry laws within the Darwin city council given they already have rules and regulations in place that seem to work fine. Let's be real chicken and roosters are not an issues feral dogs and irresponsible owners should be the issues here. This petition is aimed to voice the opinion of many who have for years done the right thing. Asking someone to give up there pets for a purposeless reason with no real justification is absurd. This by law will effect community gardens which provide a place for people to escape and feel apart of something and schools who have for many years used chickens as apart of their school gardens for children to learn and grow in and provide sourse of food with eggs.
