Young female students in Dartmouth are constantly sexualized by the current dress code. It is extremely sexist and other female students are discriminated against depending on their body type. It is an unrealistic expectation placed upon female students and makes it very stressful for the students for planning out their attire. Yes, there should be guidelines on clothing but the current dress code is unreasonable. For example, We have a rule on the thickness of tank top straps. This means they have to be three fingers wide, meaning if more is showed it’s “inappropriate.” Certain tops should have your stomachs covered but many females have been dress coded when just a sliver is exposed. This is unreasonable and unfair because everybody’s body is different and the clothes on the market are short and small straps. By all means there should be a dress code and there should be guidelines but this is quite extreme. Thank you for your support.
