HLS Five-Year Rollover
An email was sent from Natural England to the Commoners’ Associations in February, which explains that the numbers of sheep, cattle and semi-wild Dartmoor Hill Ponies will be cut by at least a further 50%. One common has received the stocking rates required to enter a ‘rollover’, a cut of 90%! The current level of 60 ponies on that common, has been cut to 5.5! We have been advised that at least 7 commons will be issued a 90% reduction of livestock.
The impact of Natural England's current policy is genocide for the ponies unless Natural England enters discussions with the Dartmoor Hill Pony Association.
We do not wish to lose the ponies from Dartmoor, along with all the flora and fauna, natural habitats and ecosystems they have helped create.
