Alex Swainston started this petition to Darlington Borough council

To Darlington Borough Council Cabinet

We the undersigned recognise that Darlington's Local Plan may have taken effort by those involved to get to its current stage. However, due to recent changes in the council and its political make-up - with 24 new councillors out of a total of 50 - we feel that concerns need to be listened to and a longer period should be allowed for councillors to review (and if necessary amend) the Local Plan to reflect current trends / new information, a new political reality on the ground, and to attempt to address some of the community outcry about issues in the Local Plan. The Local Plan should therefore NOT be voted on at July 2019 Full Council, but the timetable reviewed to allow this further opportunity for review.

More needs to be done to protect Darlington's rural green spaces (with it's  abundance of wildlife and health benefits to the local community). To simply forge ahead and destroy these historic spaces with the 'Garden Village' concept of house building, the millions it would cost to build in new link roads across such precious land to achieve them, without proper debate and consideration would be an act of vandalism.
