In honor of Mrs. Johnson's dedication to her community and its residents, we are petitioning to have an honorary street named after her.  Because the street can be no longer than a block or shorter, we are petitioning for Payne Street to become "Lera M. Johnson" street.

My mother, Lera M. Johnson (born Lera M. Brown - aka Brown Booty or Mama Lera) worked with the San Diego Unified School District for many years, (PTA) strengthening parent participation policies that would help elementary students and their parents in District 8 and beyond to gain access to much needed resources.

Mrs. Johnson also worked with local politicians -- Donne Frye and others -- as well as, community organizations made up of hundreds of local residents, faith-based leaders, mothers and others who were concerned about the future of community youth.

After spending time working with other organizations, Mrs. Johnson started her own community organization "Ladies Over Forty" where she helped families experiencing life struggles to reclaim their confidence by providing resources, counseling, shelter, and additional support to foster more stable families.
