The intellectual and innocent voters of NEA (fellow engineers and architects) elected an executive team from NEA 2073 election, but they made a very regressive and offensive decision in 2075. They unnecessarily amended NEA constitutional bylaws, and imposed membership age bar for leadership in it's election. For example to be a NEA Presidential candidate, s/he has to hold NEA membership for 15 years, meaning, they should generally cross 40 years of age. Similar is the case with other positions. This absurd decision, that discriminates youth overall, and understates the capability of thoughtful youth to lead NEA, is illogical and is also a total betrayal to the voters who enthusiastically participated in the 2073 election.

The controversial 2075 amendment seemingly done for some personal or political vested interest is totally against youth leadership, constitutional democracy of Nepal and progressive transformation of NEA. It is noted that even the mayors and parliamentarians of Nepal can participate in the election to lead metropolis and the whole nation in their early twenties and thirties, and leaders of this age group are successfully working as the President, PM and ministers in many countries of the world. In fact, the democratically elected representatives of engineers and architects are not going to function like the employees and CEOs of engineering companies but rather they would do the networking and engagement activities. So the imposed membership age limit of as high as 15 years is not rational.

All in all, the NEA bylaws amendment of 2075 is against basic human rights of aspiring and capable youth leaders in a progressive and democratic environment. This reflects a very poor mindset of the so-called democratic engineers (CDEN)-led executive committee who wrongly amended the bylaws, and it was proudly continued by the recently elected so-called progressive engineers (PEAN)-led committee. Some engineers, in the name of ESN group, did protest against the amendment then but it was suppressed by the CDEN leaders who were in power. Recently independent engineers united by such networks as NEAN, IEAN etc. also appealed for this reinstatement of the bylaws of NEA where there was originally no membership age limit; however, it has not been addressed by the PEAN leaders who are in power.

This petition is, therefore, launched to receive justice by gaining broader support from fellow engineers and architects and other general people, and pressure the NEA exec committee to remove the foolish amendment made in 2075 regarding the membership age limit. We sincerely appeal all fellow engineers and and architects, esp. youth members, irrespective of your political inclinations to vote against the SYNDICATE of CDEN and PEAN to SCRAP these provisions from NEA bylaws and election regulations. Dear all engineers and architects, esp. youth members, please speak up for your rights and sign this petition for your own future and the future of your children.
