Bring High Speed Internet to our Neighborhood

From the residents of Towanda, Illinois' Indian Creek Neighborhood...

In the past 15 years, high speed internet access has transitioned from a ‘want’ to a ‘need’.  We struggle without it.  The internet is not just for surfing the web, video games and streaming movies.  Our children struggle in public schools which have transitioned to laptops, online teaching aids and group collaboration.  Our businesses and careers struggle without a reliable connection to customers and business partners.  Our relationships struggle with friends and family who live far away and cannot enjoy staying in touch through Skype and video calls.

Other than prohibitively expensive wireless services, there has never been high speed internet service offered by any communications company for our neighborhood of 88 homes.  Our families are struggling daily trying to use your current service.  Please give us a better option.

Years ago, slower speeds met people’s needs, but these slower speeds cannot keep up with an average family in 2016.  There are many reasons high speed internet has gone from a ‘want’ to a ‘need’ in the past 10 to 15 years.

A Tool for Public Education...

Our school system, Unit 5 in McLean County, has gone online, with online textbooks, online research, turning in assignments online, online assignment collaboration (google docs).  Not having high speed access is a burden for every Unit 5 student beyond 6th grade.  Our kids are at a disadvantage during group projects, struggle doing research for papers, and cannot watch educational videos, which can be part of the course work.  It’s a problem that will only get worse as Unit 5 continues to expand toward online learning strategies.

A Tool to Enjoy Relationships...

Our community has raised many wonderful kids who have grown up and have families of their own.  Modern life sends people all over the world.  High speed internet allows long distance relationships to feel close.  With high speed internet access, grandparents can still see their grandchildren take their first few steps, even half way around the world.  Kids off at college can spend time talking to mom and dad via skype, enjoying a video conference call on a college kid budget.

A Tool for Small Business...

There are many small businesses owned by residents of our neighborhood.  Some are operated in whole or in part from homes in the community.  All of them need owners that are accessible and can log in to work and take care of problems.  Spotty internet service can turn a small disruption into a serious customer service problem for many small business owners.

You have an opportunity to offer us a service that we need and you can provide.  Your business model allows you to make a profit providing it.  We are not asking for a handout, only a service offering.

Please make the investment necessary to bring us an affordable high speed internet service.
