Estimado CEO Daniel Ek:

 Gracias por tomarse el tiempo para escuchar el reclamo de miles de cubanos en su lucha por una Cuba inclusiva futura donde la música, la libertad de expresión y las artes en general no sean censurados.  Spotify ha sido un líder tecnológico en mostrar causas sociales que elevan la voz de los oprimidos y abusados.

 La dictadura cubana ejerce un control tiránico sobre qué información puede dispersarse dentro del país. Artistas internacionales como Gloria Estefan, Arturo Sandoval, Yotuel, Gente de Zona y muchos otros son censurados en sus estaciones de radio y televisión. El pasado 11 de julio el pueblo cubano salió a las calles por primera vez en más de 60 años, masivamente, en todo el país, pidiendo la libertad y el fin del comunismo. Se encontraron con una represión brutal y un llamado a las armas del tirano despótico Miguel Díaz Canel.  Estas acciones han sido condenadas con vehemencia por la Unión Europea, Estados Unidos, Human Rights Watch, Amnistía Internacional y muchas otras organizaciones internacionales.

 Algunos artistas cubanos, solo unos pocos, aún apoyan y defienden las acciones represivas de la Dictadura, dos específicamente son muy activos en difundir la ideología y la propaganda de un sistema que no da espacio a la disidencia o la diferencia de opiniones, Buena Fe y Raúl Torres.

Nosotros somos extremadamente cuidadosos y reacios a pedir censura de cualquier tipo, especialmente después de haber sido víctimas de sus tentáculos durante 62 años, pero hay momentos en los que Karl Popper y su paradoja vienen a la mente, y debemos trazar una línea. Buena Fe y Raúl Torres han ido mucho más allá de sus llamados artísticos y sociales a beneficiar a la humanidad a través de las artes y se han convertido en piezas fundamentales para atacar a otros artistas que hoy sufren prisión como Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, recién nombrado por la revista Time una de las 100 personas más influyentes del mundo, así como Maykel Osorbo, uno de los autores de la exitosa canción Patria y Vida.

 Israel Rojas, líder del dúo Buena Fe y vocero del régimen Castro-Canel ha expresado recientemente “Los consumos culturales no se están decidiendo en nuestras instituciones culturales. Se están decidiendo fuera, por arquitectura tecnológica, por diseño digital, por infladera… los músicos más pegados del ‘Hit Parade’ en los últimos años le halaron la cadena, hablaron contra la revolución y tienen a la mitad de la juventud confundida”

Raúl Torres es autor de varias canciones recientes que legitiman la dictadura y en consecuencia su censura institucional, "Patria o Muerte por la Vida" y "Desbloquéame", ambas de pésima calidad musical pero promovidas por el sistema de radiodifusión oficial cubano como herramientas efectivas de propaganda.

 Este tipo de intolerancia, persistente y patente es lo que nos trae a la mente la paradoja de Popper, no seremos tolerantes con los intolerantes, o terminarán debilitando o destruyendo los valores y libertades por los que tanto luchamos.

 Como clientes de Spotify, solicitamos humildemente sacar a Buena Fe y Raúl Torres de su plataforma para que dejen de monetizar con el sufrimiento y el encarcelamiento de otros artistas y del pueblo cubano en general. Creemos firmemente que esto es inmoral y no debería continuar por más tiempo.

Dear CEO Daniel Ek:

 Thank you for taking the time to hear the claim of thousands of Cubans in their struggle for a future inclusive Cuba where music, speech and arts in general are not censored. Spotify has been a technology leader in showcasing social causes that raise the voice of the oppressed and abused.

 The Cuban dictatorship exerts a tyrannical control on what information can be dispersed within the country. International artists like Grammy winners Gloria Estefan, Arturo Sandoval, Yotuel, Gente de Zona and many others are censored in their radio stations and broadcasting system. Last July 11th the Cuban people went to the streets for the first time in 60 plus years, massively, all over the country, asking for freedom and the end of communism. They were met with brutal repression and a call to arms from the despotic tyrant Miguel Diaz Canel. These actions have vehemently been condemned by the European Union, United States, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and many other international organizations.

 Some Cuban artists, just a few, still support and defend the repressive actions of the Dictatorship, two specifically are very active in spreading the ideology and propaganda of a system that gives no space to dissent or difference of opinions, Buena Fe and Raul Torres.

We are extremely careful and hesitant to call for censorship of any kind, especially after being victimized by its tentacles for 62 years, but there are times where Karl Popper and his paradox come to mind, and we must draw a line. Buena Fe and Raul Torres have gone far beyond their artistic and social calls to benefit humanity through arts and have become instrumental in attacking other artists that suffer prison today like Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara, just named by the Time Magazine one of the 100 most influential persons in the world, as well as Maykel Osorbo, one of the authors of the hugely successful song Patria y Vida.

Israel Rojas, leader of the duet Buena Fe and spokesman for the Castro-Canel regime has recently expressed ““The cultural consumptions of this country, the cultural consumptions within music are handled from Miami and that is a defeat for this country. Now all those who are stuck, in the first positions of the ‘hit parade’ of recent years, they pulled the chain, they spoke against the Revolution, and they have half the youth half confused”.

 Raul Torres has authored various recent song that legitimize the dictatorship and consequently it’s institutional censorship, “Patria o Muerte por la Vida” and “Desbloquéame”, both of dismal musical quality but promoted by the Cuban official broadcasting system as effective propaganda tools.

This type of intolerance, persistent and patent is what brings Popper paradox to mind, we shall not be tolerant with intolerants, or they end up weakening or destroying the values and freedoms we so hard fight for.

 As clients of Spotify, we humbly request to remove Buena Fe and Raul Torres from your platform so they can’t monetize any longer with the suffering and imprisonment of other artists and the Cuban people in general. We strongly believe this is immoral and should not continue any longer.
