Please re-open Victorian primary and secondary schools now!
Victorian primary and secondary school students are approaching almost 200 days of remote learning because of snap lockdowns brought about by the COVID pandemic. More than any, their lives have been upended because of a lack of interpersonal relationships with teachers, school administrators, and peers. Anxiety, fear and trepidation is rife among students - particularly younger ones who live with constant worry about another lockdown. With no sign of the pandemic ending, this is unsustainable and must end. Premier Daniel Andrews, Education Minister James Merlino, and Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton, MUST find a way to keep our kids at school during future lockdowns. Parents and carers can work from home, but our children need to be in school learning, playing and socialising. Teachers and administrators should be prioritised for vaccinations so that their risk of transmission is significantly reduced, enabling them to safely return to the classrooms. And if schools must be closed, do it on a case-by-case basis based on science and epidemiology, instead of the current all or nothing approach. Please re-open Victorian schools now!
