Fix Labor’s Rail Fail

State Labor must urgently commit to funding the Warrnambool/Geelong to Melbourne rail line.
While the Turnbull Government has provided $254 million to upgrading the line including $150 million to duplicating the track between South Geelong and Waurn Ponds and upgraded platforms at Waurn Ponds, Marshall and South Geelong, Labor has committed just $20 million. This is beyond a joke.
Labor has belatedly matched our government’s $5 billion commitment to an airport rail link to Tullamarine (albeit by way of an election commitment only), but once again we see Labor turning its back on the people of Geelong and Corangamite.
That Labor has committed no proper investment for rail infrastructure in our region is an absolute disgrace.
To make matters worse, State Labor has done nothing thing to fix the Regional Rail Link which has proved to be a total disaster for Geelong commuters in peak hour.
We need a fast express train to Melbourne. This would have been possible had Labor not botched the Regional Rail Link which is servicing Tarneit and Wyndham Vale at the expense of Geelong commuters who have been treated like second class citizens by Premier Daniel Andrews.
The Geelong to Melbourne rail line is the busiest regional rail service in Victoria. Trips on the Geelong, Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool lines have increased from 2.6 million in 2006-07 to 7.6 million in 2016-17, as the Geelong Advertiser reported (GA 20/4/18).
Peak hour train services on this line have become the “sardine expresss.”
Infrastructure is simply not keeping pace with growth across the Geelong region and Labor’s rail fail is a major part of the problem.
Please sign my petition to show Premier Daniel Andrews that rail infrastructure investment for Geelong and the Corangamite electorate is critical.
People power matters. Thank you.
