WHEN WILL PLACES OF WORKSHIP REOPEN?

The most common question that I have been asked during the Covid-19 lockdown period is: “When will places of worship reopen?” Unfortunately, Places of Worship have been deemed as non-essential and have been placed last on the reopening list. Why is this?

It all comes down to POLITICS. We, the “religious” communities, do not have a powerful lobby group who can place political pressure on the State government to reopen Places of worship. 

For us, The Greek Orthodox church plays a major role in Greek – Australian life. Many traditions and customs have a religious basis, and the church offers a broad range of worship to its faithful. It provides a way for you, the faithful, to constantly receive renewal and grace, which in turn supports you to participate within the sacraments and enables you to express your pain and sorrows. The church through its beliefs and rituals offers the bereaved a solid structure to deal with grief and death. It helps the fallen, sick, confused and spiritual ill humans who suffer. It helps all of us in a tangible and therapeutic method to attain real health, like joy, peace and faith.

In other words the Church is the hospital for the soul and it is not viable for a hospital to be shut.
