The WHO has just declared Coronavirus to be a global pandemic, and encouraged countries to act responsibly. The reports from doctors within Italy are chilling, and suggest the ferociousness of the virus and the scale of effects on the health system that are almost certain to be replicated in Australia. Unable to even consider those over 65 for intensive care, or for those under 65 but with comorbidities, is a horrifying prospect - people will die and suffer and receive inadequate care when the health system crumbles under the volume of cases projected.

It has been commented that the containment measures in China worked well, and what is different in Italy is the attitude of people in countries less willing to restrict peoples' liberties and lifestyle- Like Italy, like Australia.

The F1 expects 300 000 spectators. The idea of letting this go ahead is insane, thinking of what happens with even a handful of coronavirus positive individuals there, and how that spreads, and what that does. How is the monetary incentive of this event greater than the appropriate management of a currently unprecedented global pandemic.
