Terry Collins started this petition to Daniel Andrews (Premier of Victoria) and

Please support this petition for all Heavy Vehicles to be banned permanently from the Right-Hand Lanes on all 3, 4 and 5 lane Victorian roads, this should also include the Burnley Tunnel which is 3.4 klms, the Domain Tunnel which is 1.6klms & both the Melba and Mullum Mullum Tunnels.

Back in March 2010 this was announced by Tim Pallas  "TRUCKS WILL BE banned from the right-hand lane on Victoria's multi-lane freeways in a new plan announced by Roads and Ports Minister Tim Pallas today. Except for buses, the restrictions will apply to all heavy vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass over 4.5 tonnes".

Clearly this has not been implemented.

I'm asking you, "ever had a vehicle sit right up your tail trying to push you along the road when you're doing the speed limit?"  It's intimidating, dangerous and outright illegal.  Let's escalate that feeling with a 20 to 40 tonne heavy vehicle, 'now that's what I'm talking about'.

Why do Heavy vehicles need to be in the right hand lane on either a three, four or five lane road..?  It's clearly dangerous and the authorities are aware of this.  Please keep reading, these are the facts on the VicRoads website.

Trucks will be permanently banned from the right-hand lane of the Monash Freeway, following a successful six-month trial.  The restrictions will continue to apply to trucks travelling in both directions between Huntingdale Road, Mount Waverley and Jacksons Road, Noble Park.

Since the trial ban was introduced crashes have reduced by almost 40 percent.

There was also a reduction in the number of both heavy and light vehicles changing lanes.

VicRoads Director of Heavy Vehicle Services Eric Henderson said the ban is aimed at improving traffic flow and boosting safety for all drivers.  “We know side swipes from drivers changing lanes are the most common crash types between trucks and cars on the Monash Freeway,” he said.

“This ban is designed to reduce the amount of crashes on this busy section of the freeway, and allow people to get to where they need to go more safely.” Over 200,000 trips are made by drivers on the Monash Freeway each day with 40,000 of those made by heavy vehicles.

Permanent restrictions currently apply along the Princes Highway from Melbourne to Geelong and along sections of the Eastern Freeway.  Drivers should keep a safe distance behind other vehicles at all times and not cut in front of heavy vehicles which require much longer distances to safely stop.

* VicRoads Director of Heavy Vehicle Services Eric Henderson is aware this saves lives and reduces crashes.  Why haven't they implemented these laws across all major roads?

So let's break this down:
3 lane road, Heavy Vehicles banned from using/entering the 3rd lane, they can only use lane 1 & 2 (stay left).
4 lane road, Heavy Vehicles banned from using/entering the 3rd & 4th lanes, they can only use lanes 1 & 2 (stay left).
5 lane road, Heavy Vehicles banned from using/entering the 4th & 5th lanes, they can only use lanes 1, 2 & 3 (stay left)

Please help us implement this across ALL major roads & arterials in Victoria.  Your help is needed.
