Save the old Yarragon Primary School site

The old Yarragon Primary School site, situated in Rollo St Yarragon, is currently being fast-tracked for private sale by the Victorian State Government. Residents and groups in Yarragon strongly believe that this 4 acre space should be retained by the State Government for Public use, such as garden/park land, community/recreational facilities and for a much-needed new Country Fire Authority facility. The Department of Finance & Treasury offered land to the Baw Baw Shire at reduced rate to the open market valuation. The Shire indicated that they want to acquire the site for community use, but could not be more specific, without a period of public consultation. The Department of Finance & Treasury rejected the Baw Baw Shire's proposal, on the basis that no specific defined community purpose was acceptable to them, and that the lack of specificity was not a good enough reason for the DFT to forgo revenue they would get from an open market sale.

But the old Yarragon Primary School site is an important community asset and historical site, and should be retained. This would enable Yarragon to create public spaces on the site that can be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

We ask that you sign our petition to save the old Yarragon Primary School site from being sold off, and so the Victorian State Government engages the town in a proper and transparent Public Consultation process, so Yarragon residents and groups can create community spaces that benefit the whole town, not just a property consortium.
