Why this petition matters

Started by Shatoya Smith

Roy Manson was a 33 year old male from Hollis, Queens , who lost his battle to bladder cancer on January.24,2020. Roy was a very outgoing, positive individual and role model to those in and out of the community. He was known and loved by people of all ages, and he wanted everyone to "Shine". Roy kept his illness a secret to many, in fear of being judged my others. He was the strongest of them all;  He was my "SUPERHERO" , who never showed any sign of weakness, even till his last breathe.

Raising awareness for cancer may not cure it, but it can help lots of people in a number of ways especially young people. Although cancer has its widespread challenges, many people don’t realize or understand exactly how it effects the community, nation and world. By helping educate our community on The dynamics of cancer, we can spark the mind that may change the world.

Renaming 202nd street to RDOT Way would mean so much to many, especially those of Hollis, Queens community. Roy was Hollis ! He was an active member of the community who took initiative to inspire his neighbors to strive for the best . He genuinely wanted everyone to Shine and prosper. His energy and presence is missed dearly . While many are grieving his loss , they are also confused . How could someone so young and full of life be a victim of this vicious disease . Let’s honor Roy’s legacy and his admirable ability to be resilient in the face of death . I believe that this will open the eyes of many people not only within the community but throughout the world to get an annual check up , as well as become more knowledgeable about the signs & symptoms of cancer.
