In recent history, questions regarding the name of the NFL team, the Washington Redskins, have arisen. Many Native American activists have considered this term to be derogatory. The term "Redskin" began being used as early as 1769. FedEx, the team's largest sponsor, has joined the push to rename the Washington Redskisn. Nike has taken all Redskin's apparel off their websites and Dan Snyder, who has been publicly against the renaming of the team, has announced the team will review the name.

Why the Redtails? For those who don't know, the Redtails is not just some other cool name we can attribute to the Washington football team. Rather it was the name given to the planes of the Tuskeegee Airmen, a group of brave African American pilots who fought in WW2 and gave their lives for their country. They were the first African American soldiers to successfully complete training and enter the Air Force. These brave men were praised for their fine work as soldiers but were turned away by society as black men.

What better way to show the change this country is going through. By changing the name from a derogatory term to a name that honors African American airmen. The Washington Redskins, and the NFL can show they are changing with the country in hopes of pursuing total racial and social justice.
