John StPierre started this petition to Representative Dan Newhouse

The use of bots in purchasing highly sought after items such as sneakers, electronics, and hardwade to name a few, creates an unfair marketplace where scalpers can buy up a stores entire stock in seconds and mark it up to insane prices. A human cannot compete with bots to purchase items. Bots can even circumvent 1 product per address limits by spoofing addresses. This manipulates the market by creating an artificial shortage and hurting the consumer. The best examples for this are limited edition sneakers and consoles like the ps5 and even computer hardware.

The 'Better Online Ticket Sales Act' already addresses this problem for ticket sales. But the same problem occurs for many other goods online. We as consumers shouldn't have to pay 200 percent market value for a console or sneakers just because someone used a bot to buy out available stock faster than a human could.

Purchasing products and selling them at a marked up price isn't the problem. Using a bot to buy out stock to shorten the supply is. The solution to the insane prices on highly sought after items is to ban the use of automated bots to circumvent customer limits and buy out a stores stock.

Thank you for taking the time to read this through and I hope you sign for a more free market place.
